Scientific Field Note:
This nocturnal small cat lives in the deepest shadows of the rainforests of Southeast Asia. Barely larger than a squirrel, Noctifelis whisperii makes no sounds—instead, it communicates through subtle vibrations in the air. Its velvety fur seems to absorb sound. Attentive naturalists report occasionally hearing whispers in the wind, even though no sound is heard—a common occurrence near whispering cats. The animal has large, melancholy-looking eyes that seem never to blink.
